You'll want to add a 1.5 rear spacer to avoid negative rake. 5th gen springs have an extra coil than the 4th gens but are the same height (when new). There's really no reason to use FJ rear springs over 5th gen. 5th gen springs are slightly taller, and slightly stiffer.

There are cooling lines attached to the oil filter adapter, as shown in the diagram.

It was the indicated gasket that was causing the issue. Total pain in the ass as you have to drain the cooling system to get the oil filter housing out. 340k on this engine. No leaks now.

I was wondering if anyone has seen this issue before, as it seems very uncommon. There are steady drips of oil coming from the Engine Oil Filter Adapter while the engine is running. Oil comes from behind the bolt pictured, my guess is from the o-ring between the adapter and block.

To answer the original poster's question, full-time 4wd is the superior option as it allows for seamless transfer between high and low traction surfaces. This is why Toyota has used it for the last 30 years in their most capable offroad vehicle, the Land Cruiser.

Honestly Toyota designs parts with the intention of lasting their full lifespan and not needing to be prematurely replaced out of fear for catastrophic failure. If you go through and replace a bunch of parts designed to last 50 years with aftermarket stuff that might last 2 years you're doing...

Your mechanic is incompetent. There's no way that both your front diff and tcase are faulty. Now his diagnosis is "maybe front axles"? Find someone who knows how to work on 4wd's. The fact that you greased the driveshafts and the noise changed is a clear sign. Check the front driveshaft U joints
