Ya, the X-REAS is junk. I replaced it once with OE X-REAS for a lot of $$$ then had to replace it again and just went with Old Man Emu springs and shocks. You can disconnect the X-REAS and replace the shocks with Bilstein, Monroe, etc. and be fine. Just depends on how you want the valving to...

For what it's worth the xreas system would cost you about $1,800 for a dealer to replace. You should be able to get an entire ome spring and shock setup and they'll still come out cheaper.

Ya, XREAS is total garbage. We had it replaced by a Toyota dealership at 65k and then at 110k it failed again, so we just said screw it and had the XREAS removed went with OME spring/shock. Imagine how many 4th gen 4Runners are on the road with blown XREAS systems. That's a LOT of unsafe...

Do you happen to have the part # for these lights in the climate control knobs? I have a few out and my local stealership is flakey and never actually ordered them the 3 times I've called about it.

As somebody who's replaced the XREAS once with XREAS and then again with OME spring/shock setup, I will say the OME is definitely more rugged and not as plush. However, it also makes the 4Runner feel like a 4Runner probably should. If your wife is ok with a bit more rugged, I'd go OME...
