The reason it is suddenly accelerating after a brief moment of hesitation is that the fluid is pumping up to where it should already be. You're priming the pump every time you step on the gas, due to the lack of fluid. Buy some Dexron-III at any gas station or Target/Wal-Mart/Sears, etc...
