Transmission squeak when in neutral, or when rolling slowly, or when letting clutch o

I tried going in with a bore scope, both from the front cover and by the slave cylinder. But I never got a direct view of the bearing. While trying to push the camera around the side of the bellhousing the camera and cord would get covered in jet black grease. Very messy. This can only be from...

Transmission squeak when in neutral, or when rolling slowly, or when letting clutch o

I'm not sure, it's the front half for sure, but it isn't obvious if the noise originates from the middle section or the bell housing at the front. I can tell you it's definitely not the rear half of the transmission. Also if it is a main input shaft bearing or a pilot bearing how long does the...

Transmission squeak when in neutral, or when rolling slowly, or when letting clutch o

No, the only 2 common problems this engine is known to have is burnt valve from failure to adjust valves and balance shaft issues.

Transmission squeak when in neutral, or when rolling slowly, or when letting clutch o

I got the money shot. The AC is off, in 2wd, fully warmed up, and in neutral. The clutch is out the whole time. Squeaked like mad, and it would go away if I revved the engine, totally unaffected if I put the clutch in or out if I was in neutral. The clutch grabs fine and I have no problem with...

Transmission squeak when in neutral, or when rolling slowly, or when letting clutch o

Ever since I said I’d get a video the problem has been intermittent. I tried this morning, I got a sound alright but it’s a new one, and I don’t think it’s the transmission. Sounds like rod knock to me, which makes no sense considering the miles and maintenance I do. You can hear the clatter...

Transmission squeak when in neutral, or when rolling slowly, or when letting clutch o

The transmission hasn't been opened up since it was put together 28 years and 230k miles ago. The video was in neutral with clutch completely out, but it can make the noise as I'm letting the clutch out too. We can also rule drive shafts and transfer case out since the car is stationary. I'll...

Transmission squeak when in neutral, or when rolling slowly, or when letting clutch o

My 4runner has this squeaking when I am in neutral (50/50 if it does it) or rolling very slowly, or letting out the clutch (almost always). The squeak goes away when I rev the engine. It doesn’t match pilot bearings exactly but I don’t know what else it could be. It’s been getting more...

    Test

I was on my phone. Every time I clicked create post, it took me to login, I'd log in, it'd take me back to the home page and I'd click create post and it'd repeat. I got an email about failed logins, which is strange because my password was correct enough to reply to threads. It's behaving...

Feels like t4r.org is rolling on 15yo aftermarket LBJs

I find reddit to be a bit incompetent and inexperienced beyond extremely well known problems. This forum has information I can find nowhere else, and that makes me very worried. The other forums are too new to have extensive 3rd gen sections, and 3rd gens are too old and uncommon to regenerate...

    Release bearing or input shaft?

Cant post a new thread for some reason. My 4runner has this squeaking when I am in neutral (50/50 if it does it) or rolling very slowly, or letting out the clutch (almost always). The squeak goes away when I rev the engine. It doesn’t match pilot bearings exactly but I don’t know what else it...

    What’s killing your 3rd Gen?

It’s lack of parts that’s starting to concern me. The CV axles are a well known example, but I worry about perishable rubber parts that are unique to the car like door gaskets. And electronic parts like Maf or egr. Rust is a concern since moving to NJ. I completely covered every part of the...

    Akebono 436 vs 611

I finally had to install new pads, the 611 fit my 319mm rotors. With no other difference I can find, I’ll assume the 436 was the one for smaller size rotors.

Are the brake calipers the same if you didn't have ABS or VSC?

I'm trying to order rebuilt Toyota calipers and I'm confused. I know from my window sticker my 4runner got the 16 inch wheels and 13 inch rotors. I also know that I didn't get the ABS or VSC. I have no doubt about that. But I can't find the combination of 16 inch size wheel calipers with the no...

    Removing cloth upholstery

You talking about the plastic by the reclining handle? That won't be an issue. My bigger worry is snapping the other seat mounts off again. Last time I snugged up seat bolts I ripped a mount off, I don't know how the other 3 will treat me.
