    Gas mileage

Hi all again, So I wanted to update this thread after I had a longer experience with the 4runner. I took it to the dealer a while back to ask them about the milage being so bad - 13.7 MPG. One of the techs told me that it had to "break in" and that it would get better. He explained that the...

    Gas mileage

Hi 4x4Runner, Great points. Especially the point about stepping on the gas more because of the lack of response. Tires do make a difference I realize, but on my 4th gen it was just a couple of MPG, not 5 to 6 MPG. I still feel like something is not quite right. But... it just might be the...

Not sure on either right now, but I will check and post

    Gas mileage

Ha! Yes, I have to remember that I am talking to an Engineer, so when I say "exact" I should have thought about that a bit more! All I can say is that when I first got the 4th gen - stock, brand new, I was getting about 415 miles per tank. Every time for a long time - few years maybe? Then...

    Gas mileage

Hi Engineer, That is really useful information, it really is. And it makes a lot of sense; I had not thought about the temperature and gas blends and did not realize they make that much difference. My question then is: My 4th gen was averaging 16 to 18 MPG in the same exact conditions...

    Gas mileage

Hi Ukie, My daily drive is about 17 minutes both ways on roads like you saw in the picture. It is not exactly stop and go, but it is not highway cruising either.

    Gas mileage

Ok, so I now know the actual gas mileage that I am getting and I also know that the range gauge is fairly accurate. Below are pictures that show: 1. The type of road I drive on primarily - side roads, 30 to 40 MPH 2. The miles I drove on a full tank 3. The range shown left 4. The MPG from the...

4th gen VS. 5th gen - my thoughts

Crunchcity, I could not agree with you more. After a few weeks and trying to convince my self that I just needed to get used to it, I have come to the same conclusion. I guess over time I will get used to it and change the way I drive based on throttle response and I suppose over time it will...

4th gen VS. 5th gen - my thoughts

Hi Thai, Nice to meet you! I have read many of your posts and you always have great information. Thanks for all your help over the years (even though you did not know I was reading them as I was lurking!) Quantum

    None taken whatsoever!!!!

    Gas mileage

Marlin, This is what I am talking about - the difference in MPG between the 4th and 5th gen seems remarkable. I'm getting the same results in city vs. hwy driving. Quantum

    Gas mileage

Hey Westwind, Good point on when you reset, ie on a hill with the throttle punched or down a hill coasting - the results will be drastic. And you are right, that is common knowledge. The only real numbers will come from a manual calculation, will do that with next refill and post. Quantum

4th gen VS. 5th gen - my thoughts

That's a good one Sandcrawler! I said I was not an expert, but I am not that bad! But thanks for the refresher! Quantum

    Gas mileage

That is a good point. I have only owned my TE for a couple of weeks now and frankly have not hand calculated the gas mileage. I absolutely do not stomp on it at all. Just normal driving, seriously. I know the dash gauge is not all that accurate but still when I saw 12.7 it still freaked me...

4th gen VS. 5th gen - my thoughts

    Absolutely agree with that.
