this may be an seem obvious, but why not take a long drive on the highway where it might not be so hilly- run the tank near empty from a full fuel fill up and then calculate the milage. if you get a number much higher than your usual 10- like 18 or so, then you know that it's the steep inclines...

i'm not sure about the others on this thread who have stated a preference for the manual, but i can only guess, like me, it's got nothing to do with being cool. driving an suv isn't really that cool- it's kind of neutral- but much cooler than driving an econobox or a pedestrian sedan. now riding...

i just missed 2- one somewhat far away and another locally. you've got to act quick on these i guess. i do prefer manual shift so thanks, you've convinced me to look exclusively for a 5-speed- unless i stumble on a great deal on an auto- i might have to bite the bullet and buy it. :)

i'm looking for a gen 3 manual. they are hard to find, and usually go quickly as there are a few of us around who like to shift. auto cars and trucks just feel lazy and unresponsive. you feel like your floating down the road. i like to pay attention when i drive. it isn't ideal in traffic...

on that link posted on that thread, i see that most of the "upgrades" seem cosmetic and minor- save for the possible 1" lift from taller springs, locking rear, and UV glass. that's not a real deal breaker in my mind. unless there was something really special in the 99, and the one i'm looking...

hello, i'm another newbie here. i've never owned a 4runner before, but i've had an older bronco (93). i'm on the verge of purchasing either an original owner 96 4runner with 80K on the clock and extremely well taken care of or another that's a 99 with 2 owners that's perhaps not quite as well...
