WTB: 2nd gen Tacoma v6 manual

I’m looking for a 13-15 v6 Tacoma 4x4 with a manual transmission, low miles and not rusty, preferably not beige, stock or a few minor mods is best. Let me know what you have, might consider other years for the right deal, I’ll fly to you if you’re within a days drive of western PA. I’ll also...

Catastrophic U-Joint Failure - The saga

TLDR: -OP only goes to shops for work -dirty mike and the boys Toyota specialty shop replaced his oil pan gasket with one made from old shopping cart wheels -all the jack daniels in the OPs crank case leaked out -driveshaft was made out of a dried up possum carcass -dirty mike said the...

Flowmaster & resonator delete too loud at 70mph

It will quiet down some after a while, if that’s not enough I’d take it back and have them put a small resonator in, that should help a lot to get rid of the drone. is your cat intact?

    Tire Shops what the f_g!

I just take my wheels and tires off and take them to a local shop, costs me maybe $20 to have them swapped then I just give away the old ones. My local shop would probably mount and balance a potato if I asked him to, I’d bet half the tire business around here is mounting nearly bald used tires...

    Fuel pump replacement interval?

Mine just suddenly failed, drove fine the night before and wouldn’t start the next morning, I’ve had other pumps fail that showed signs of failure before, mainly low fuel pressure and associated symptoms once warm. I dropped the tank on my rusty PA rig in 6” of snow, considered cutting the...

    Fuel pump replacement interval?

Mine failed around 200k, keep in mind replacing the pump on these involves dropping the tank it’s not like some cars where you can access it through the hole under the rear seat so it would be pretty hard to do a roadside repair

    Speedometer calibration questions - again.

This is correct, the signal goes from the wheel speed sensor to the abs ecu then to the speedometer and finally to the main ecu. You can run around with the speedometer completely disconnected from the main ecu and still have a functioning speedometer

    Brake Bedding

I go by what the pad manufacturer recommends, usually it’s either printed on the box or a piece of paper with your pads. Powerstop recommended a bed in procedure similar to what you posted, while akebono said don’t do that and just be easy on the brakes for the first 500 miles

    Window seal replacement

Just go get one at the junkyard, these things don’t really wear out that often and are always pretty expensive new. I put a product called gummi pflege stift on the weather stripping on all my cars and it seems to really rejuvenate it and keep it in nice shape

    Head Gasket/Head vs Rebuilt Motor

Very few if any of the jdm engines are coming from a Hilux surf/4Runner, and they put the 5vz in a ton of different vehicles so I don’t think there will be a shortage of engines for a long time, and even when that time comes there are so many of these engines floating around I think the...

Return them and get the motor west set, I have that set and they are great, I wouldn’t run any unknown remans from rock auto

Things to check after going through deep water

Pretty good chance you got some water in your rear diff, I’d drain and refill then not worry about it. Any minor amount of water that may have gotten in through a leaky oil pan gasket will evaporate off when your engine is at operating temp, though I doubt any got in. I got water in my rear...

Checklist for 35s? Or am I just dreaming.

I’d probably get 5.29 gears with 35s, if it’s a manual then 4.88 might be ok
