3rd Gen T4R Longevity is UNREAL!!!!

I bought my 2000 5 speed 4x4 in January. Needed rear axle seals and bearings, valve cover gaskets, output shaft seal, brakes and a change of fluids. No regrets. It runs perfectly and with all the maintenance, it was still cheaper than buying new since I did most the work myself. I plan on...

    5 speed and lockers rare?

I have a 2000 5 Speed V6 4x4, no locker. When I picked it up my friends immediately told me I lucked out finding one. It even came with the hood scoop. As for 4runners being an investment...lol. Toyota produced hundreds of thousands of these and people shouldn't expect these to go for much...

? pack rear 02 sensor w/ silicon to defeat P0420 code?

I wouldn't just throw parts or suggest quick fixes to get rid of the code. The P0420 code is merely a symptom that truck is experiencing, and isn't telling you the root cause. I'm no mechanic, but know many people that are, and their advice regarding this code has always been to diagnose from...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I used the Magnaflow direct fits. Both come with a 5 year limited warranty, and CARB compliant for those in the People's Republic of California. MGF 447192 for the front. MGF 447225 for the rear. My catalyst monitoring system says OK and no P0420 to be found. Seems to be working for now.

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Took on the P0420 by the horns today. New O2 and A/F sensors and cats. I kept the original rear cat since it only looked like it was plugged up by the grenaded front cat. The honeycomb material in the rear cat look in tact, so I might try to clean it and sell it, or keep it as a backup. No...

    UPCOMING: Oil Cooler Gasket Replacement

Bringing this thread back from the dead. Thanks to OP for the info. That O ring doesn't last very long. Only 270K miles! I had the oil cooler cleaned from all the gunk the previous owner managed to leave behind. Looking to take this rig to 500K and now I'm confident it can.

Rear Axle Seals: The Ultimate Information and Replacement Thread (3rd gen)

Thanks to the OP and other contributors to this thread. It benefits everyone to have information regarding this issue on hand. I had my seals replaced today by my mechanic and I'm glad he showed me what he found. Turns out, the mechanic of course pressed the retainer too far inside and also...

    Filthy cooling system

Went from green that the PO of my truck had put in to toyota spec, and getting the truck to blow hot air hasn't been quicker. The difference was night and day.
