FWIW I would replace the whole tank including the pump. I went through this on another car and it was a cascade of problems, one after the other, that would have been resolved if I had installed a complete unit.

Plastidip is the way to go if you're on a budget, but you have to redo it every 2-3 years.

Are there TPMS sensors installed in the tires? If not it will cause a false negative error light in some 4runners.
