I love a good rig job!

That's some MacGyver sh** there. It'll probably last longer than the rest of the truck.

LOL. Trust me, I've made the same mistake. I think we all tend to look for 4X4 or 4WD.

Question about my alarm and key fob on my 1997

I have a 97 SR5 (bought it a couple months ago) with the same remote. I've noticed the same thing with the random chirps, and I too am curious what the bottom button is for. I'll do some digging and see what I can find out. I'll let you know as soon as I get something.

Need help with front end noise

Well that gives me something else to look at. I had the front left wheel off the ground today to change the inner tie rod end. Checked out the a-arm bolts and they looked okay. How do you know if sway bar links are bad? Mine aren't loose, but the rubber is questionable. I took it to...

Need help with front end noise

Okay, this one has me stumped. I figured it's time to tap into the wealth of knowledge on this forum. I picked up this 97 SR-5 a couple months ago and I'm going through it a little at a time. I don't have a lot of spare time or money, so bit by bit, I'm getting some things knocked out. I've...

The ad does state it's a four wheel drive...right after the color.

Diff and t-case fluid change question

Rear diff and t-case fluids changed. I'm going to wait until I can get to a lift to do the front diff since I need to pull the skid plates. I had a couple skid plate bolts broken off. Managed to get the broken pieces out and replaced all of them with new bolts. Didn't have the new gear lube...

    Fuel filter help!

The front one likely doesn't go all the way to the rail (at least not on my 97). It goes to another inline connection (identical to the joint mentioned above) just inboard of the fuse box above the left valve cover (very easy to get to), however, the clamps holding it in place between the...

Diff and t-case fluid change question

It's good to know you can completely drain them. I might be prepared to go straight to synthetic, depending on how the fluids look when I drain them. Thanks.

Diff and t-case fluid change question

It's an automatic transmission. I've already had it (and the coolant system) flushed. Good advice on the fill holes. I've read that in several other threads on this forum. Can't imagine how much it would suck to drain and then realize the fill hole plug is stripped.

    Speedometer calibration?

Thanks VA, I actually hadn't considered going with a 17" tire that is the same height as the 16". Very good point. I think if I end up with a half inch taller tire, I agree a calibration is probably not warranted.

Diff and t-case fluid change question

I have a 97 SR5 with 245K miles. I'm planning to change the fluids in both diffs and the t-case (no maintenance history). I anticipate this hasn't been done (at least in the last 7 years and 120k miles from PO). I was wondering if anyone among you have run new fluids through the diffs/t-case...

    Speedometer calibration?

If so, then he is absolutely right. However, I was referring to the diameter. With everything else being equal, a 265/70R16 is smaller in diameter than a 265/70R17 (only by about 1/2 inch). This does have an effect on the accuracy of the speedometer. After switching to to 17 inch wheel/tire...

    Speedometer calibration?

Maybe I'm missing something in your question. If I find a set of 17" wheels (say from a Tundra, Sequoia, or FJ Cruiser), I'm going to have to get bigger tires. Even if I had the 17" wheels now, I couldn't use my current tires because they're 265/70R16s.
