I just did the recirculation actuator repair following this thread. What a pain to get to, I did much of it like esb_t4r described above. Removing the white wire harness of the airbox gives added access.Still the screw furthest back requires some patience to work with.
Thanks for the great write up!
Sounds like a headgasket or cracked head to me. You coolant is level is going down, it's leaking into the cylinders and getting burned off when you first start up leading to the rough idle until its gone.
Nice analysis of mpg a different speed. I generally don't get great mpg from a combo of high speed and short stop and go trips
Drag or force of drag is calculated as below. The force of drag increased by the square of the speed (v). As speed is increase the wind resistance goes up...
I was impressed that you have a 99' still (now about 20 years old), then I saw you have fewer miles that I do on my 07' :)
Unless you need V8 or the specific model I don't see a reason to look only for an 09'
I had a 3rd gen and loved it, but the 4th gen is a much nicer vehicle to drive. The V6 with multimode 4WD and ATRAC was a big improvement over a 13 year old 3rd gen.
The extra space, updated interior and extra amenities are nice too.
Get an 06 or newer to avoid potential head gasket issues...
You might need a new AUX port if the internals are damaged. Otherwise you will not be able to select AUX on the stereo when plugged in (there is a contact inside the plug that needs to connect upon the 3.5mm cable getting plugged in)
Yes, the center differential lock should be a separate button (left of the steering wheel). The center diff is open and automatically works as AWD when not pressed (you can drive on hard surfaces without problems). Press the center diff button for a few seconds and you will see a different 4wd...
Its likely your Aux port. It should make a connection when you plug in the jack before your can select AUX on the stereo. The contact inside the port is likely loose or broken. Take the port out and open it up. You either need to resolder, get a new port or solder two pins together and now...
I had two sets on Revos on my 3rd gen. Always got loud and started losing grip around 25-30K. So I stopped using those.
When I got a 4th I needed new tires right away and gave Michelins LTX/Ms2 a try. They are smooth on the road and I never had balance issues. I decided to replace them with...
You will be fine. The engine has plenty of power. You will bounce the speed limiter early in the 3 digit speeds and it could easily go faster without the limiter...
