I did swap out the neutral safety switch with a new unit, but that was before I re-insulated the wires. I can swap it out again to test now that the wires are re-insulated and report back. Is there a continuity test for the NSS that I could do off the truck?
I’m close to throwing in the towel on this 3rd gen, but I sure would love to keep my dream truck alive. Is there any issue with driving the truck by disconnecting the neutral safety switch harness behind the glove box after I start the truck? I did this yesterday to move the truck about 10 miles...
I exposed more of the harness under the truck and the only visibly damaged wires were white/red and black/yellow. I re-insulated with heat-shrink, but ran out of light before I could test continuity. Hopefully that's the extent of the damage to the harness, but with the light for L coming on, I...
I’m leaning towards replacement since I don’t know the extent of the melted wires throughout the harness. I’ll see if I can unplug and free the harness enough to pull it up through the engine bay. If it’s just a small portion of damaged wires, repair shouldn’t be too hard. Having a replacement...
I started unplugging the harness from the trans and O2 sensors so I could fish it out and get a better look. I found a few exposed wires near the neutral safety switch connector after peeling back the plastic.
I replaced the neutral safety switch and the issue is still there. I wasn’t able to pinpoint the short, but I believe it’s somewhere in the engine harness based on continuity checks with the multimeter. Thanks for the info on the harness part number. I’ll check near the ECU but if I remember...
Thanks for the info. If it comes to replacing the harness, it sounds like something I can handle.
I replaced the cluster first thing after searching the forums but unfortunately the problem is deeper.
Does anyone know if the engine/trans wiring harness can be replaced without major disassembly of the vehicle?
I need to get this thing back on the road.
Thank you
From what I can see under the truck the light green and white/red wires are across from each other in the connector. I drew squares around the ones I’m referring to. Can anyone confirm this?
The white/red hole looks like it’s melted at some point. I’m wondering if the short is in the connector.
I connected a multimeter to each end of the connector behind the glove box and tested continuity between light green and white/red. I also tested light green to ground and white/red to ground. This should tell me if the wires are making contact with each other somewhere right? It’s been awhile...
Thank you so much! I located the harness/connector from the NSS behind the glove box. Unplugging this connector turns the indicator lights off on the dash. Hopefully the issue is easier to isolate now.
