yeah. It seems like the tension is adjusted by the tensioner & the position of the alternator. I've never run into any issues, but I've often wondered if there is an optimum position.

I'd be interested in hearing more about that as well. Additionally what subset of tools do you take on that 30,000 mile trip?

I've got a 98 with just over 200,000 bought it 8 years ago with around 130,000. I think it is one of the best purchases that I've ever made.

I'm with AntleredRuin. I do almost 100% of my maintenance on my lunch break. It helps that I bike commute, so there are not issues if I can't finish something in 45 minutes or less.
