Downsizing tires but not wheels? TireRack recommends narrower profile for winter tires. The 06 SR5 has 265/65/17. By my calculations, a 245/70 should have the same height (about 172mm) but a narrower tread (20mm, almost an inch narrower). Has anyone done this kind of swap?

PPI results update Pronounced good by Toyota mechanic - very clean frame. A few things to address: rear shock leaking (will go with KYB Excel-G from Rock Auto), torn CV boot on RF (LF axle was changed 20k ago). Tires down to 3/32. And a few minor things. Now to go try it our ourselves...

THANKS for this to-the-point advice. I would not be doing "offroading" - more like occasional field roads and dirt roads, so this seems a reasonable replacement for what looks like a soon-to-die XREAS.
