    tie rod replacement

yes lefty loosy righty tighty, but on tie rods there is both. It makes it easier to adjust at the alignement shop. If it wont go the proper way try and crack it loose the other way. And yes it should goto the shop for a wheel alignement but you can do your toe set with a tape measure.

    Understanding spacer lifts

Tires is the only thing that will make better clearance under the diffs. Even if you do a 6" suspension lift you still need bigger tires for clearance. Like what was said earlier need a lift to fit bigger tires. HTH

You could also put the axle stands under the front and rear axles. You would have to jack it up higher if you put the stands under the frame. When you let it down the suspension will unload bringing the tire down to the ground. It is safe to leave your runner on stands for days. Just be...

    Understanding spacer lifts

Your conclusion is right. Tire placement is the key when wheeling anyway. Put rock sliders on, then no worries about rocker panel damage.

    Understanding spacer lifts

If the spacer lift is a 2 1/2" it will lift your 4runner the same amount. It will not change the clearance under the diffs. Getting larger tires will do that.
