I know this thread is quite old but were you able to get this installation done on your own? I'm having the same problem with my 06 4Runner and would like to give this a shot. The pictures help but I'm a bit stumped on what equipment I would need and perhaps a light tutorial as my regular car...
What bulbs did you use for the display and buttons? I'm in CA so I'm too far away to do the whole dash but I think I can manage the HVAC area if I can find the right plug and play bulbs.
