You're right domestic or import they all have issues...just my frustration talking.....The dealer did balance with a Road Force balancer and it made a ton of difference.

I'm about to "not" own a Toyota. One more try today to eliminate the shake then back to a domestic vehicle......4Runner has been a disappointment.

Update to my post. Hooked up a mechanical oil pressure guage and found the following pressures; cold idle - 70 to 80 psi hot idle in gear 5 to 10 psi hot driving around 1500 to 2000 rpm 25 to 35 psi. Still knocking at idle in gear when hot.

Ever find anything causing this knock? I have the same problem and Toyota Techs gave up. Truck runs great but I'm annoyed with the noise!

I've only had it 2 months and didn't hear the knock during the test drive since I didn't leave it in gear idling. When in park or neutral the engine sounds good. The service history shows it was never back to a dealer for anything since new and from some of the things I've repaired the owner...

The knocking (which sounds like a rod knock) is only present when the engine is warm and in any gear. Goes away when rpm reaches 1200 - 1500. Not present in park or neutral. It can get real noisy sometimes and hardly audible at other times. I never heard a rod knock go away at higher rpm. Had...

Anyone heard of issues with the oil pumps in the 3.4? Still chasing a knock when engine is warm at idle or just above idle in gear. Toyota techs are kind of puzzled too.

WD40 does a good job and will not harm the finish. Might take a couple applications but has always worked for me.

Final tab was $690. I just knew my luck would be it quit in the middle of a storm in the middle of no where at midnight! Probably could have saved some $$ taking it to an independent shop but this dealership knocked it out quickly, gave me a loaner, and Toyota honors a nice warranty.

Had the timing belt and water pump replaced today. Found out it was the original and the water pump was definitely leaking. Went ahead and had cam seals and crank seal replaced whil in there...ouch. Wonder how long an original belt will go? :dammit:

I was seconds away from the cut off wheel for that drivers side but the big pair of channel locks and a longer ratchet broke it loose. If it wasn't a North Carolina vehicle it wouldn't have worked.
