This is ridiculous (not you -- thanks for the info; Toyota is ridiculous) -- Toyota made such an bad product that (if one follows this kind of procedure) really puts drivers in danger.

BTW, I should add that, of course, I had read this forum and a few others, and tried all kinds of tricks I could think of to no avail. Finally I took it to the dealership and they told me the "small motor" (I suppose that is the actuator?) was broken. Howard
