A mobile radio with an external antenna is the best, but if you don't want to go that route - go with the handheld radio and the external antenna.

This happened to me too on a 2015. Took it to the dealer for a full system checkup and got the usual "can't duplicate the problem" bullshit. File a complaint ASAP with NHTSA: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

Not sure if entirely related, but on a 2015 SR5 I had the following happen to me on normal dry road and aggressive breaking. The ABS kicked in for a split second and then with the pedal still down - the ABS system released the brakes all together!

Was this mod done on 5th gen 4Runners?

Yes it's cut but chip and the fob don't work. I'll try the dealer first since I just purchased the vehicle two weeks ago.

Does this mean that on 5th gen new keys and fobs cannot be added without the programming software?

Today I tried to add a third key with build in FOB to my 2015 - failed on both! All the instructions I found go as far as the 4th gen. Do I have to go to the dealer?
