Manual Trans No Start No Crank

OP here, just as everyone said, it was indeed the contacts. Getting the starter out was a royal PIA- other than that, easy job. Spent a good hour trying to wiggle the starter out, rest of the job took 20 minutes. I used this kit. Amazon.com: Victory Lap ND-34SOL Solenoid Repair Kit : Automotive

Should I Keep Putting Money Into My 2001?

Inspections in PA are a pain, but at this point we're half way through the process, emissions are done and pending a few items I mentioned to get it through. I do as much as I can myself as time permits to keep the costs down. Starter isn't required for inspection, but has been acting up...

Should I Keep Putting Money Into My 2001?

Funny how relevant this thread is. I'm in a similar boat, and I'm sure all of us 3rd gen owners have these conversations with ourselves dealing with 20+ year old vehicles. I love mine, it does everything I want it to without costing me a car payment, so its a pretty simple decision. State...

Manual Trans No Start No Crank

Had mine into the shop for inspection today, figured I'd have them check out the starter while it was there. Shop says "dead spot" in starter- is this referring to the contacts and plunger or the armature and brushes? Replace just contacts or go with a reman denso replacement? Denso are the...

Manual Trans No Start No Crank

Thanks Kanoe, the symptoms were so similar to the clutch switch my mind first jumped there, definitely could be the starter. I'll have to look back through my records but I believe it is original.

Manual Trans No Start No Crank

Hoping you guys can help me troubleshoot, did some searching but wasn't able to find my answer yet. The rig- '99 SR5 5 speed manual w/ e locker- 170kish miles, all stock. Problem started a week ago, is becoming more frequent. All manual 3rd gen drivers know how sensitive these are when...

    Driver/Passenger seat swap...

Wanted to add to this thread, since I swapped mine this weekend and a few questions were left unanswered. Specifically the seatbelt sensor. Pretty straightforward once I got into it. Mine is a 99 SR5 with leather, manual seats. Unbolt and remove seats, unscrew and remove side panels. 4...

    Front End Damage- Thoughts?

[/IMG] [/IMG] Snapped a couple quick pictures this morning. I threw on a brand new set of Falken Wildpeak 265/75 16's on OEM wheels I had ready to go on before the damage occured. The only used bumper in the area we could source had fender flares, so I've got a few extra...

    Front End Damage- Thoughts?

Just to close this one out, my 4Runner lives on. Ended up letting my local shop take care of the entire process. I initially stopped by for a quote to have them straighten the frame, found the guy who runs the body shop and he and I were on the same page. He gave me a quote for the full...

    Front End Damage- Thoughts?

Went back and forth numerous times with the Geico adjuster and his supervisor, couldn't get them to come up at all. Switched gears and did get them to knock a few hundred off the salvage buy back price though, as I thought that was high. Just for future reference for anyone in a similar...

    Front End Damage- Thoughts?

Just to update, mine is playing out just about the same way yours did. I'm keeping the truck and getting a check for $4400. Local shop will pull the frame for me for a couple hundred bucks and either I'll replace the rest of the parts or they'll source some used parts and do it for me, still...
