    2005 4Runner Rims on a 1999?

4Runners that came with 31" tires (265/70/16) came with either 4.10 or 4.30 gears, (most with 4.30 gears had the rear electronic locker). A gear ratio calculation will tell you that if you go from 28" tires with 3.909 gears to 31" tires, you should change your gears to 4.30. Also, I believe...

    2005 4Runner Rims on a 1999?

Just a side note that if your Runner has the 225/75 tires you are probably running 3.909 gears. If you put the larger rims and 31" equivilant tires on, your effective gearing will be like 3.53, which might feel like a power loss. Also, your rpm's and speedo will be off. Just a heads up.

    Toyota planning 10 more hybrids

Even if a diesel were available for the United States, it might not be available everywhere. You can't get the CRD Jeep Liberty in California and a few other states if I recall.

    Jeep Liberty Carnage!!

Good information vandert. As much as I like Toyota, you tend to find a lot of "everything else is crap" on any message board, wheter it be a 4Runner, Jeep, or anything else. There are some lemons, some cherries, and some idiots out there, regardless of what you drive.

my rear axle blew a seal!!!

Uh oh, I hope we don't all have to expect this to happen to our rigs. It's bad enough I just had to replace the clutch at 73k, ($600), looks like it's just about time for the rear axle to go too huh?

    Found a 96 SR5 with only 70,000

I believe you could get the rear locker on an SR5 as well. It was an option on both models.

Suggested tire size for 96 SR5, thanks.

4Runners that came with 16" wheels had larger front discs, (by about an inch or so). The rear drums are all the same size on 15" and 16" wheel 4Runners. I wondered about this as well, both for upsizing wheels, or for putting 31x10.5x15 tires on my stock 15" wheels. The wheel size wouldn't...

    Any suggestions for shocks?

I was wondering about this as well. When I took our '97 SR5 V6 in for its 60k service at a Firestone shop, I asked about the timing belt and they did not see it listed as needing replacement at 60k. It's weird because the service manual only lists timing belt replacements for the severe...

Creaky Clutch: Easy fix or impending doom?

You're welcome. Isn't it great how Toyota uses a plastic bushing between 2 pieces of metal? It happened to me as well, but I replaced it with another plastic bushing...now who's the dumb one? ha ha

Creaky Clutch: Easy fix or impending doom?

I'm not sure if this is what's happening to you, but a lot of 3rd gen owners have had to have a clutch pedal bushing replaced. Search on this site, or on yotatech.com for clutch pedal bushing. Good luck.

Any T4R owners up in Nor Cal/Sac area?

GYoter, is that a Disco on your neighbors driveway? Maybe they'd be up for wheelin with some 4Runners? :p On the last SUV run I went on led by the local jeep club, there was a group of about 6-8 Discoveries heading the opposite way on the trail. I'd like to be out with a group of 4Runners...

Any T4R owners up in Nor Cal/Sac area?

trboblu74tii, nice looking Runner. I'm out near Elk Grove, 99/Calvine area. I've got a stock '97 SR5 and have been on a few runs with a local Jeep club. Doing another one in 2 weeks. Only thing is, our Runner has the 15" alloys so I'm lacking a little in ground clearance, but I don't do...

Hummer H1 vs. H2...who will win??

It was probably pavement, but wouldn't payment qualify for either of those vehicles as well? I think the H1 is over 100k and the H2 is probably like 50k or so.
