I definitely got the jshift with the new trans. Needed the pushbutton. I couldn't use my old one because it was cracked. Found a pushbutton at a picknpull today (fingers crossed).
I picked up a transmission and transfer case today (CL find) to install in my 98 limited. Once I got it home I noticed a slight difference. My 1998 had what looks like a vacuum/electronic unit on the back of the transfer case. The one I bought does not and appears to be fully manual 4x4...
I found the issue. One of the bellhousing to transmission bolts backed out and ground its way up against a spinning torque converter. Im sure once it got in the right position it wedged itself between the torque converter and bellhousing..causing everything to jump.
I've got a 1998 Limited (auto) with no trans/T-case at the moment. I've got a line on a wrecked 2001 sr5 3.4 4x4 (auto) with what seems like a good working trans/t-case. I notice there is no kickdown cable on the 2001. Is this a bolt in/plug in and go? Or is there modifications I'll have to do?
If that was the case I think i'd see a lot more damage to components underneath. There is no major marks showing anything hit hard.
With that ruled out, I'm wondering if the bent drive shaft was ran for a while and if so, would it cause said damage? FWIW: the drive shaft was bent due to what...
About a month ago I picked up a 1998 Limited. It had a horrible shake around 50mph on up. I overlooked the frame before purchase since im in the rust belt and was way more impressed by frame condition than other tr4's i looked at prior to this.
The shake was a bent drive shaft. I picked one up...
I crawled underneath my 98' Limited and looked at the cracked bellhousing, cracked transmission, and cracked transfer case...then cried a little. I quickly wiped my tears and started turning wrenches to get them out.
If you think you got trans problems, you should see what i'm dealing with! Cracked bell housing, cracked transmission, cracked transfer case, and a bent drive shaft. Bought the truck a month ago.
