    Rough Idling on 4runner 2003

Oil Control Valve Filter Last night I got a rough idle on my 2005 v6 4Runner and I suspect that one of the oil control valves is stuck. I'll get the codes pulled later today. The oil control valves were replaced about 8 months but there was no mention on the invoice about an oil control valve...

I couldn't make this stuff up. I don't have that good of imagination.

SynLube has a good article of why cars are so tasty to rodents. Incredible Edible Car Note there are a couple of 4Runners in the list of damaged vehicles. The ones listed are all 5th gen 4Runners. I sent him the details on my 4th gen. From the list it looks like Toyotas and Subarus are...

    Blown HG, options

The answer is almost always, "fix it." The market for non-working vehicles is smaller and comprised mostly of mechanics. Here is a good podcast on the topic of repair vs replace. https://radicalpersonalfinance.com/255-how-to-decide-if-you-should-repair-your-car-or-replace-it/

    Breakpads disappeared - callipers gone

I would stick with a bicycle because they are much cheaper to own and maintain. Maybe a tricycle because they are easier to ride when drunk.

Found rat poop on my battery!

Take care of the rats ASAP. See my other thread on rat damage. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/208826-rats-blown-head-gasket.html

    Breakpads disappeared - callipers gone

It sounds like the "break" pads were just taking a break from braking. Once they are finished with their break they should work just fine.

Found the leak with a fiber optic camera. A hose on the top end of the engine is leaking; probably due to being old and stressed with being taken on and off multiple times. Should be a simple fix.

Fixed but not fixed Well I got the 4Runner back from the shop - finally - and it is now leaking coolant *sigh*. I see it dripping from the location shown in the picture. I don't see anywhere above that point where it is leaking but I probably just can't see it. What is the most likely point and...

You are right; it looks like it is only worth about $8K. But I think my basic premise still stands. For most people on the forum it would be the perfect excuse to upgrade to a 2016 4Runner.

    Rats!! Blown Head Gasket.

Sorry to hear that. I would just have them fix it and move on. Try to get an extra, extended warranty for free but since it is a 2015 you should have plenty of manufacturer's warranty left. You say "that [it] may or may not be fixed properly." Well if it isn't fixed properly then have them fix...

    Rats!! Blown Head Gasket.

After having a lot of time to consider this question I would have to disagree. Conservatively, my 2005 4Runner is worth $10K (working of course). Without a working, reliable engine it might be worth $2K for the differentials and transfer case, etc. So fixing it for $4K is totally worth it. I can...
