Crutchfield will sell you a headunit and wiring harness adapter and give you installation instructions. All you need as far as tools in a screwdriver and some trim removal tools, though a taped up flat head screwdriver can work in a pinch if you don't have trim removal tools.

For anyone wanting to clean their MAF, this is a great example of how not to do it. Never use anything like a Q-tip which makes direct contact with the MAF to clean it, the sensor is very sensitive and can be easily damaged. Instead, use MAF cleaner which you spray on the sensor to clean it...

For what it's worth, zerk fittings aren't unique thread sizes, so if you can work out what threading the zerks are you should just be able to buy a bolt or plug which is the correct threading already instead of trying to drill and tap it.

Can you confirm that the measurements you gave are on the non threaded portion only? Assuming yes, what are the dimensions of the threaded portion? Looking at that I'm guessing it is a 19mm head and an M14-1.5 bolt. If that is the case, how loose were your old lower control arms when you...

All 3 of the readers show ABS not equipped because the ABS system doesn't communicate with the OBDII system. That message doesn't indicate any ABS problem at all let alone one that would warrant replacing the ABS ECU. If you have a P0500 and your speedometer doesn't work I'd be looking at...

Find another shop who knows enough about 3rd gen 4Runners to know how to pull ABS codes. If your shop thinks that they can pull ABS codes via the OBDII port on these cars they have no business diagnosing an ABS issue on them. You are on the right track with jumping the ABS port for codes...

That's for the fronts not the rears. For the rears, you really do need a press.

You did leave out one step in your post which was covered by alumarine. Make sure that after you run through the gears from P to L you then return to P. I assume you are actually doing this as leaving it in L and getting out to check the fluid level would be quite risky, but it's best to be sure.

I'd see if you can have Crutchfield build you the adapter harness. They will do it if you are buying the headunit from them. I don't know if they will do it for a headunit you already have, but it's worth asking because it will save you a lot of hassle.

Be careful on the spare tire. 16" wheels weren't an option on the Tacoma until 2001. Prior to that they were all 15" wheels which may not clear the 4Runner brakes.
