I ran a 97 (3rz manual) on 35's as a dd for 3 years, half on stock gears and half on 4.88's. No issues, life was great...do it.

Thanks for the intel, definitely interesting. Looks like I can use my chain case plus their kit (~$1200) to build a crawl box, then several options on the backend....just need to do some research to understand which are passenger drop, reliable, and affordable-ish.

The intent is to be able to drive this thing cross country, so reliability is definitely a thing.

That sucks to hear trail gear quality is still suspect for tcases. If i can find a good junkyard case ($300) + MC31 adapter ($400) + 4.7 gear set ($549) i'm at $1300. For a 2 speed atlas its $3k, 4 speed $4k+, plus an output shaft on the trans. Leaning towards a single 4.7 case.

I put myself on the waiting list for hellfire knuckles. I'm not opposed to FROR's solution, but i like the hellfire preload solution (no shims) and six studs spaced way apart should be plenty strong enough for this rig.

I picked up an FJ80 axle over the weekend so i'm now committed to passenger drop. What atlas did you go with, and what trans did you mate it to?

Damn, $500 each is crazy. Thinking 2.28x4.7 built unit from TG makes the most sense at this point. May be getting an FJ80 front this weekend.

For a fully built trail gear option, looks like 2.28x4.7 is the only option on the website. I've built crawl boxes before, but finding 2 gear driven cores in good shape is becoming a challenge. This would likely be the route i went if staying driver drop (add crawl box in front of factory...

I may be interested, will definitely keep you in mind. I really need to commit to an axle...most likely going FJ80 passenger drop mainly for cost. No custom housing needed, i'd need to source a mini truck axle for a mini outer solution anyways and those are getting hard to find in decent...

Didn't know about the FROR option, thanks for the intel! I'm aware of the Slee option, but want sometime a bit stronger. I've had the hellfires on my old 4runner (also linked 80 front) and they were easy to set up and issue free. Buying the dual ultimates from trail gear is pretty appealing...

Picked up a 00 Runner auto for my next build. I've been outta the game for a while so need a gut check. Purpose: Drive family of 4 all over west coast, crawl over rocks (rubicon/fordyce, utah, colorado, etc), drive home, get slightly better fuel economy than a fj80. Front will be 3 linked...
