    My Back up Camera Install

Thanks for the write up. I'm doing my install this week. You said your camera view doesn't actually show the hitch ball? That's a concern for me as I'll use it a lot to hook up to my trailer. Could the camera be tilted down a little when installing in that location?

Any idea cost to have entire frame replaced?

Not trying to rehash the many rust threads. My newly bought 03 has a lot of chassis rust, mostly surface without major perforation, but some rot around the struts no doubt eventually a problem in the next few years. I'll do rustproofing etc. and spot welds if needed. Just wondering if anybody...

Loose Steering Play: U Joint or something else?

Just as a follow up, had the U joint (lower steering assembly) replaced. Probably about 75% better with less play (but not totally gone), click feeling gone, less stiff. Not as good a cure as I was hoping for but can definitely live with it.

Changing head unit to kenwood DDX372BT 6.2" screen/ do I need a harness

No, I don't. If you are replacing the factory amp then it becomes easier I think, some good write ups on the board of similar project builds if you search around.

Changing head unit to kenwood DDX372BT 6.2" screen/ do I need a harness

I just bought the identical unit for my 03 with JBL, from Crutchfield. Included a wiring harness, dash kit, and steering wheel control interface. I haven't started installation until my cheapo eBay rear camera arrives then I'll tear it all apart. Crutchfield did send an installation sheet with...

    Timing Belt Question

My just-bought 03 limited V8 has only 97k kms (60ish miles). Asked mechanic about the timing belt, he said just follow the regular maintenance schedule. I see some conflicting advice here that maybe it should be done sooner just due to vehicle age. I know rubber gets stiff and cracked with age...

Loose Steering Play: U Joint or something else?

That was really helpful, the play does seem to be at the u joint so hopefully that'll be the fix. Can't get it done for a couple of weeks, hope there's not a risk of catastrophic failure

Loose Steering Play: U Joint or something else?

I read that as well. One thing I didn't understand is where so much play/looseness would come from; other than stiffness, which I'm not even sure I have, it wasn't clear from the thread above exactly what symptoms I should be feeling with a bad u-joint. Anyway, I'll give it a go with...

Loose Steering Play: U Joint or something else?

I did review this thread and modification suggested: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/57115-steering-wheel-knock.html Not entirely sure that is the same as what I am feeling. I don't get any click or clunk past that very initial point of engagement, and nothing at the extremes of...

Loose Steering Play: U Joint or something else?

My newly bought 03 has a steering rack issue. I have about 1" of loose play of the wheel in either direction, at rest or driving. When I turn to left or right, just past the looseness when the steering engages, I get a little click/clunk in the wheel. Steering is linear, no shaking, a little...

Swapped RAS for Coils: rear lift I didn't want!

Got some stock springs from the junkyard, had them swapped for whatever lifted springs I had on there, out another $200 but riding level and happy.

Swapped RAS for Coils: rear lift I didn't want!

No colours on the springs that I can see. My distance is 24" from centre of wheel to fender. So I'm definitely jacked up higher than I want to be. Don't know if I just put up with it, insist on different springs, lift the front, etc. ride is ok, pretty spongey and definitely more side to side...

Swapped RAS for Coils: rear lift I didn't want!

This forum is invaluable. Found info about DIY zero calibration of the yaw sensor using some wire, the TSB someone kindly posted here, and 5 minutes of my time. All warning lights off, staying off. Thank you thank you. Now anyone with any other ideas about my abnormal lift?
