I tried to fix my transfer case actuator leak with a new o-ring today by taking it off and then re-installing it. The first time back on the truck, I got a horrendous grinding noise, all the lights (VSC/ABS/etc) went on and I couldn't get the truck out of 4LO. ugh... I cleared the CEL code...
