The problem is with a software bug and not the remote. There's a TSB about it on the Toyota Service site. I may have it somewhere as a pdf file, but I'd have to look for it... It's a known issue with '99 and '00 4runners. It's about $300 to fix, out of warranty, (dealer) because you have to...
