Welcome aboard, I would look into sliders instead of running boards, you can make or buy some for around what you will pay for running boards.

I would go the drain and fill route, since this is a new to you ride with higher miles, I would do it a couple times over the next year. i regularly drained and filled my LC and the tranny had 320k miles when I sold it with no problems.

The 15" will rub on the brake caliper, it is possible to grind off what is need, but I would not. You can always sell the good tires on CL, and the fair tires and come close to enough for new 16" tires
