Ok... I got the license plate off, and there is more rust around the bolt holes. It is definitely a bit worse than I thought :(

I'm in Canada as well. They said just paint the spot and clearcoat the whole hatch. This quote was at Maaco, by the way, who supposedly are on the lower end of the price scale as they cut a lot of corners.

Talked to a body shop today. ~$600 US$ just for that little spot. They said they would have to take the whole hatch apart and clear coat the whole thing to do it properly. I may just try and fix it myself :(

I could do this with sandcloth/emery cloth (might be the least invasive, I don't want to take off more paint that necessary), or a wire wheel (might take too much paint off). I have Rustoleum Flat Black spray paint like this (link below). I would think that would match my paint well? It is a...

Here are some better pictures. In better lighting, I can see how the plastic license plate frame has been rubbing or otherwise damaging the paint...

When I tried to unscrew it, it didn't seem to want to go, so I didn't force it. I was able to lift it up a bit though, and it looks like all the rust was starting at the bottom of the license plate, like you see in the pic.

I am scared that the turbo-4 engine that will likely be coming in 2024 will ruin the reliability of the T4R. My '13 T4R currently has 195K Miles, and will be 10 years old as of this summer. My options are A) continue driving it till it dies (I am hoping to get another 10 years out of it) or B)...

My 2013 is at 185,000 Miles (mostly highway commuting), no serious accidents. I am just doing the recommended maintenance and oil changes at the dealership. I am guessing I should be able to get to 300K+ miles pretty easily?

It wouldn't be practical for me to own and maintain 2 vehicles, I've already thought about the commuter car thing and it wouldn't work well for my lifestyle. Also I am pretty anal about the maintenance schedule and even to do the minimum maintenance and insurance it would not be worth it to me...
