What happened to the Bilstein 4600s?

They are definitely still available if you search the Bilstein catalog. As far as I know they are valved slightly differently to 5100s because they are for factory ride height. In my opinion 150 usd per corner for a gas pressurized monotube shock is an absolute steal.

    FJ coils/5100s/OME 885/895

Are you *set* on getting 2.5 inches in the rear? If you go that route OME springs are basically the best bet, but they are pretty stiff when unloaded. If you don't, Dobinson's C59-325 gives about 1.75-2″ lift in the rear, are not as stiff as OME, but still stiffer than stock. OMEs have spring...

    rear wheel no alignment possible?

Might also want to check out prado 120 axles. 4.0 prado 120 shares the same axle with V6 4runner, but as far as I know V8 and V6 share the same rear end, so prado axles might be the best bet. They are called "land cruiser" in some countries, where the bigger brother is called "land cruiser sahara".

    FJ coils/5100s/OME 885/895

For the front, since 5100 snap rings only preload the spring, if you move the snap rings to the top notch you'll get exactly 0.75 inches more, and it won't settle. If you feel like that's not enough, then get some OME front coils. Their regular front coils are pretty softly sprung so it wouldn't...

    FJ coils/5100s/OME 885/895

    1. I do not recommend any OME rear coil with bilstein 5100. OME rear coils are way too heavily sprung for bilstein 5100 (imo for stock weight 4runner as well). I've run 2895E (shorter coil compared to 2895, same spring rate) and they're like concrete. They do handle wonderful on road, that's...

    Mix & Match Shocks

All dobinson rear springs are at least 20% stiffer than stock (180lb/in stock vs 220lb/in minimum from dobinson). This will make your ride a bit harsher, but will improve handling. However in terms of aftermarket springs their spring rate is already on the low side, OME's springs are 260lb/in...

    Mix & Match Shocks

I mean it will work, but it's not like monotube just equals "harsh-ride". As much as shocks can play a big part in harshness, I believe if you keep the factory rear springs (which are pretty soft) you'll still get great ride with some monotubes that are tuned for stock springs. I still recommend...

    4th Gen suspension question

Bilstein 5100/4600 will suit you very well, since they are wonderful on road. 5100s will be a little bit stiffer than 4600s as they account for lifted applications. However, both are tuned for factory spring rate and you can lift the front a tiny bit with 5100s (using 2nd notch from the bottom)...

    2005 v8 4wd 5100 kit selection

Best option is to get 4 corner 5100 only and set it at 0.85 setting (second notch from bottom) and assemble the strut yourself. KYB strut top is dirt cheap and you can get it at Autozone, and then you can rent a spring compressor. Plus, this way you don't need to get the trim packer to adjust...

    Semantics of Torque Distribution

Because it's a locker. "Torque distribution" is a term used for differentials, like subaru's center diff, our Torsen center diff, etc. Our Torsen, for example, sends 40/60 F/R normally, and close to 29:71 when turning, 53:47 when rear loses grip. Because that's the amount of torque that the...

Engine ticking noise, driver side, rear

First you need to make sure it's indeed from the exhaust. I have isolated the sound to be coming from the manifold area. For my V6, I can only hear it with windows down. If you can hear it even with all windows up, it might be an tiny exhaust leak. There's an interesting theory coming from a 120...

    Alignment Question

There's a video on youtube that specifically explains toyota truck's front suspension: Everything About Toyota IFS | Suspension Construction and Limits | Part 1 - YouTube When viewed from the front, Camber is how much your wheel tilts up and down. Toe is how much your wheel tilts left and...

    Torn on Tire Size

The TRD Pro wheels (I assume you mean the fancy looking ones) have less offset compared to stock wheels. This means they will swing your tire further front and back, and you will have less clearance. There's a youtube video on an aggressive 265/70r17 clearance with stock ride height on stock...

    4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

*Most* mfgs say that to let you buy their shocks. However, in very few cases they do have a point. Here's an example: The lightest OME rear spring has 260 lbf/in spring rate (that's about 45% higher than stock rate), and most other aftermarket entry level shocks don't quite have enough damping...
