It is possible to reconnect the breather hose to the diff without pulling the clamshell out or lifting the engine. Try disconnecting the bracket holding the hard line on the driver side of the diff, this will give you more wiggle room.

Won't be an issue keeping the stock one for a while. I did when I had superflexes for 6 months. Only thing you might notice is the rear axle being slightly off center (1/4-1/2").
