About to buy my first (2000) 4Runner Limited but...

So I just bought a 99 4runner limited with nice new tires, beautiful exterior/interior condition, and with 155k on it, so I thought I could relate and offer some advice to your situation... First off, if you dont know about the service history, have a prepurchase inspection at Toyota or a...

    what would you do??

Thanks for your thoughts. I am in agreement with you. The sludge dislodging and ending up blocking oil passages is what makes me most nervous...but if/when a problem is going to happen, it will happen. Like someone else said, the engine is already condemned. So I'll just do a simple flush (I'm...

    what would you do??

So just got the 4runner back from the shop today. I've had all this talk with nothing to show for it, so I thought I would pass on a pic of what I've fallen in love with. Toyota took care of leaking valve cover gaskets, leaking power steering rack, and timing belt/water pump/seals. Its driving...

Welcome to the forums...I'm newer on here and am so greatful for all the help and new info I have been getting!! And I'm hoping as I learn more I will be able to offer more contributions to help others rather than just posting for help with my own! =) That is cool you were able to test the...

    what would you do??

After a little searching, found this...What do you think about these comments...?: found at http://autotechrepair.suite101.com/article.cfm/040206 Flush machines do what they say; they force high pressure cleaning solvents back through the engine and transmission and clean out some of the...

    what would you do??

Humm...sounds like something my engine would benifit from. Do you know where I might find more info about it online? It sounds kind of like the Bilstein Engine Flush System just from a quick search I did. Any experience with this specifically? Is this what a shop uses?

    what would you do??

I see...Now how would that compare to using the BG products toytech was suggesting? Sorry for the ignorance about it....Still learning. Also, any ideas on how much a shop would charge for that?

    what would you do??

thanks toytech (I'm assuming your a tech at a toyota shop). I looked at BG products web site and that looks pretty good. I'll see if I can get my b/f to help with that - I dont know how much a shop would charge for that. What's your thought on how often I should be doing oil changes with the...

    Gas Gauge

Being a girlfriend myself...had to laugh at that! As a new 4runner owner and after reading these posts about gas indicatior issues...when I get my 4runner back from the shop, I will be keeping all this in mind.

    floor mats and cargo liner

I can see the point about the tan looking kind of cheaper. That was my impression when looking at them online. The black does look really sharp. Let me know what you think when you get them. And post pics if you can. And thanks to the advice, I think I will be going with Husky! Just have to...

    what would you do??

Re: Re: Re: DEALERS ALWAYS LIE!!! I agree with the pure neglect. Its horrible. I know mine didnt look near that bad however. So I'm hoping there is hope it will still last me for a while. I'm investigating the cleaning out options.

    what would you do??

I talked with my boyfriend a little about this option, but havent asked toyota about it yet. There was something else he was saying you can flush through it...I didnt know about the mineral oil...but his concern was that it could cause "chunks" or whatever to break free and end up somewere else...

    what would you do??

Re: Re: DEALERS ALWAYS LIE!!! That is UNBELIEVABLE!! But I must say...I dont feel quite so bad about my situation now. I'm just frustrated that people can be so neglectful of such a great car...How can you just let it go?!! uhhgg

    what would you do??

I agree. I wouldnt be able to lie and pass the problem on to someone else without them knowing. I did have my boyfriend and Toyota look it over before I bought it. I knew about the leaking valve cover gaskets and power steering rack. But they didnt take off the valve covers. So I had no way of...
