Finally had time to fix the issue. TheDurk was correct about wires shorting. Re-soldered and wrapped in electrical tape. boy was it a PITA to get at via tailgate, not much slack in the wiring. repairing all 3 wires corrected all my issues, just find it weird that the wiring in the hatch...
