    Where to start??

Thanks for this breakdown, Charlie. It makes it very clear. - Need to replace LBJ. - Any recommendations on shocks - are the OEM worth it for daily driving? - 10-4 on the springs. The rear is between 20" & 21", so I think I'm ok for now. - Concerning swaybars/control arms/tie rods/steering...

    Where to start??

I've been driving my 1998 as a DD for a few years now, and I guess I've just become accustomed to the crappy ride, or I assumed it was "cause it drives like a truck..." or it's the atrocious Louisiana roads, which will seriously test your stamina. Anyway, with my kid getting ready to start...

    comprehensive steering / suspension checklist

I'm looking for advice or tips on checking all of the steering/suspension components on my truck. There is no leakage so I don't suspect any worn parts, but (for example) I'd rather not have a wheel come off on my way to work one day, or I'm pretty sure it's time for new shocks, but how do I...

Regular vacuum hose by the foot

Thanks for that tip. I'll look at the air intake from the MAF to the throttle body and probably replace.

Regular vacuum hose by the foot

Can anyone point me to an online dealer who sells regular vacuum hose by the foot? I’ve tried my local dealer “just go to O’Reilly’s or AutoZone”, Napa, AutoZone AND O’Reilly’s and no one stocks the 10mm. I’m trying to kill a P0171 and I want to change out my vacuum hoses. I’ve had the code...

    (Another) Starter Contacts Removal Thread!

Well, the jobs done! 3.5 hours from start to finish. I did not find what i was expecting when i got the starter out. I was able to come straight down with it so that was nice. The PO replaced the lovely Denso starter with a World Class Remanufactured (Remy) 17239, and what a POS. Filthy...

    (Another) Starter Contacts Removal Thread!

Ok - doing this tomorrow and just saw this method listed above. I really haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere (or I missed it). Has any one installed the contacts like this or just winged it? I don’t have a vice or hand press. Any thoughts on using them to get the contacts seated correctly...

    Help! - Coolant leak

Well, to tie this thread up, I ended up taking it to another shop that I'd had my eye on. The original quote was $100 less than the first shop and I ended up paying $1035 for waterpump & seal, timing belt, thermostat & seal, tensioner, rollers, upper and lower radiator hose, and coolant flush...

    Help! - Coolant leak

I'm getting the feeling that it wasn't changed at 105K as stated.

    Help! - Coolant leak

So I got the quote and here's the breakdown: AC Delco water pump & timing belt component kit - $467 Camshaft seal 2 @ $14 Crankshaft seal 1 @ 13 Coolant & shop supplies $57 Labor 5 @ $96 = $480 With tax = $1,150 I trust this shop but the component kit gives me pause. I'm thinking of tackling...

    Help! - Coolant leak

Well - it's confirmed - leaking at the water pump. $1150 estimate. I'll love to see the timing belt and see if I was lied to about the belt and WP being changed at 105K.

    Help! - Coolant leak

I haven’t got it on ramps yet but it does appear to be dripping from right under the alternator and near the oil filter. If it is a hose or clamp I’m not sure I could get to it to replace. Let’s assume it isn’t the water pump - can this be replaced without incurring water pump replacement...
