    4Runner or Tundra?

If you get into fishing and hunting, you will wish you had a truck. But if your dream car is a 4runner, maybe get a 4runner and an old beater truck for hunting/fishing? My vote is... BOTH! Get a good used 4runner for $30,000 and buy a decent older truck for $15,000. (That's what I would do.)

    Opinion on crossbar to buy

I just bought those exact Malones. I like them for what I need (occasional use, 2 or 3 times a year). They are quiet, but they take some time to set up and install/uninstall. Now that I have them set up, they take about 15 min to install. The OEM bars sit very low to the roof. The clamps on my...

Why is the Limited called a Limited?

More semantics. The Toyota Matrix is AWD (even though it says 4WD on the emblem). 2009 Honda CRV had a sticker that said "AWD". 2010 Honda CRV had an emblem that said "4WD". It was the same exact system, honda just decided to change what they call it. Semantics. To me, AWD is for crossovers...

Why is the Limited called a Limited?

I think we are getting into semantics. Here's how I would define... AWD- (think Toyota Highlander) FWD bias with some way to send power to the rear wheels (no transfer case and no 4LOW). Part time 4WD- (think 4runner TRD Off-road) 2WD only (rear wheels) until power is sent to the front from a...

Why is the Limited called a Limited?

The Limited has Full-Time 4WD! (with lockable Torsen center diff) That is the main reason I bought a Limited. Approach/Departure angles AND ground clearance are equal on Limited, TRD off-road, and TRD Pro. I wish the Limited had a locking rear diff. I guess A-Trac will have to suffice.

Do the tires on a Limited have to be the exact same size?

    1) Does toyota recommend/require all 4 tires (on the full-time 4wd, i.e., Limited models) to be within a certain tire diameter spec? (I know subaru does with their AWD system. Meaning, if you have 30,000 miles on all 4 of your tires and 1 tire gets ruined, you are supposed to buy 4 new tires...

Have SR5, thinking about Limited. Thoughts?

Did it! Thanks for all the replies and insight/advice. LOVE the Limited! Love the leather (ventilated and heated). Love the key (no need to take it out of your pocket). Love the full-time 4wd. Love memory seats. Don't really like 20" rims (changeable). Sunroof cuts into headroom a little.

    Can the Limited do donuts?

Did it! I'm super happy. I love the Limited! It's very luxurious, kinda like a 7/8 scale Land Cruiser. The SR5 was almost paid off, but yolo. Thanks for the replies and humor!

Talk me into a 5th Gen

Because the 4runner is one of the last "proven, simple, tried & true, bulletproof" vehicles left. Vehicles are getting more and more complicated. My F150 has port and direct fuel injection and 2 turbos. It's been great so far, but I would bet $1000 that a new 4runner will be more reliable than...

    Can the Limited do donuts?

I meant "in a slick, snowy parking lot", but i did not say that. And my real question is- Can you turn off all the nannies that would allow you to do donuts? There are usually 2 levels of traction control. Some cars will let you turn traction control off (spin wheels in a straight line), but...

    Can the Limited do donuts?

You can in the SR5. 1) Be stopped. 2) Press & release the traction control button. (Traction control off) 3) Press and hold the traction control button. (Traction and stability control off) I know the Limited is full time 4WD. But can you turn off all the "nannies" and do 4WD donuts? Thanks!

Have SR5, thinking about Limited. Thoughts?

Ugh, this make me want to get a limited. I'm a cheapskate, so i don't want to spend any more money. But I'm also nervous about what could happen, and I want the insurance of full-time 4wd. Decisions...

Have SR5, thinking about Limited. Thoughts?

No. There are 3 options 1) 2WD (rear wheels) 2) 4HI (4wd center diff locked) 3) 4LO (4wd center diff locked, low range)
