Update I just read this old thread and went down memory lane. I remember when the junkyard engine was hanging from one of the trees that eventually fell on our house like it was yesterday. I remember how my girlfriend and I were dragging the engine across the backyard lawn (she is a keeper!)...

Next one I'm in! Just need to get this engine in ASAP.

Option 4! It shouldn't take too long to do yourself and it' not that expensive either. You need maybe $100 in fluids (oil/ coolant), $150-200 in gaskets and new bolts, $20 for a thermostat (why not), not sure how much in hoses, once you have the heads off take it to a machinist to get them...

I was thinking the same thing. I am also thinking that if the engine had the suspected bad bearing(s) when it was donated to the junkyard that there may be some glittery oil residing in the pan from that. I know when I looked at my oil pan when I spun the first engine that it looked pretty crazy...

You're 100% right. What I will likely do at this point is buy a JDM engine and replace all gaskets including main seal and buy a new flex plate too. I want this truck for a while and I do NOT want to have to do this again. The biggest thing I have learned in all of this is not to half ass...

Is there a way to run the engine without the transmission attached? This would let me know if its the engine or not. Would the engine harness connectors need to be attached to the transmission for this to work? This would save me time and money if this is possible. If the noise persists while...

Flex plates and rear main seals are pretty cheap. Should I just replace them and see what sticks or should I start just taking the engine out ASAP? I do have to say that the flex plate went through hell. When getting the engine out of the engine bay the flex plate was definitely flexing haha...

The more I think about the service the mechanic did, the more I am disappointed. For $200 here are the notes: "car towed in, wont start, no crank. check after market alarm for starter signal interruption. Rewired the starter signal wire at the ignition switch (black wire) and still no signal...

Why not try it i guess. It's pretty cheap, don't think it will do much but I can seafoam my other car too. Do you think the noise could still be a loose or cracked flexplate or are we all thinking rod and/or main bearings? I am also assuming its not upper end stuff but I could be completely wrong.

Thanks, its is definitely a bummer but it's not over yet. If I can find a place to work on it I will do it all again if I have to. :banana:

Just checked it. It looks like I definitely have enough oil. It seems a little too clear and not viscous enough to be oil almost. Perhaps it is only so clear because it is brand new oil. I might normally suspect a blown head gasket but I do not because a leak down test passed before I put the...
