    Thardy's 96 build

You're right, mods will hurt book value. I will definitely be looking for the right buyer

    Thardy's 96 build

Good chance this will be going up for sale in the next couple days. I work in the oil industry and with the prices of oil, work has been killer slow. With my hours cut and bills starting to pile up, I don't think I have any other options but to sell. It's a great rig and very capible. It...

Too bad these were taken just before the challenge was issued.

    Thardy's 96 build

I built a CB antenna/quick disco flag mount, from a piece of scrap I found at work. Also installed my comp lights.

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I actually did this a couple days ago, but I built a CB antenna/quick disco flag mount, from a piece of scrap I found at work.

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I've owned my '96 since 2001. Bought it with street tires, it's been well maintained, I used to run high octane (good) fuel, didn't drive it like I stole it. The best I ever got was 20. I would believe 21, but 24 is pushing it.

    What would you do?

If I had to replace my '96 I would get a 5th gen. If I had to go away from Toyota (I might get shunned for this) I really like the new Explorer with the ecoboost or an ecoboost F-150. But to replace it with something to use as it is used, I would get a non-SASed 3rd gen or a 4th gen.

SaS Dana44 Crazy bad vibrations at 1+mph in 4wd

I'm the outcast in my family. We have always been jeep people, but I bought my runner 14 years ago, and always loved the extra leg room. I'm a big guy and the cj definitely is not the most comfortable. The one we still have is orange!!

Go head and reread my last post. Look for the phrase "if built right" and "harder than a lot of people". I know there are guys on here with bad ass rigs, that use them. I will go ahead and stand by my opinion and you can stand by yours. I will personally never buy a spool. I am confident...

Maybe I should rephrase. No welded gears are probably not always as strong as a spool, BUT with a V6 running 35s you're not going to break a welded spider THAT IS BUILT CORRECTLY. What makes me think a welded diff is as strong as a spool is personal EXPERIENCE. I have seen a welded diff hold...

What makes you think welded gears isn't as strong as a spool? There is no way in hell I would ever buy a spool. Welded spiders is a lot cheaper and just as strong. As far as manual hubs, there is no other way. Especial with a locked front end. Welded or spooled it makes it physically easier...

A spool would not cause his front end to vibrate like he is talking. I am 100% positive that it is the gearing. Drive shaft angle could cause some vibration, but not enough to notice at 1+ mph. I had the exact same issue with mine front end unlocked (E-locker) unlocked the hubs it was fine...

Correct gearing is gearing, but depending on what axle you have you may not be able to match gearing. So yes a differant axle will change the gearing he is able to put in. There are MANY people who use this combo. I would still have it if not for the fact that I already had the 44 to match...

You're right, a spool shouldn't cause a problem in a straight line and shouldn't cause the vibration you are feeling. As far as cheap locker, yes it is, and in the front can be a pain, but that is a discussion for a different thread. A lot of people love them. I will likely weld my rear in the...
