If you still have it please post some pics of the damage to door, rack and paint on the passengers side. I'm helping a friend find a rig and this might be right up his alley. Thanks.
I'll search around and see if I can find a few old bolts. I don't think I took any pictures because I'm usually busy field welding the LBJ to the spindle. BTW, the welded LBJ/spindle combo lasted for over 6K miles before I replaced them. For anyone wheeling hard. Weld that shit. lol
You...
This is where the failure numbers will come in handy. For most people I agree that not exceeding OEM preload is perfect. For those that wheel hard they might need to increase that preload. Every single LBJ bolt that I failed was due to shear. Repeatedly hitting big rocks with big tires...
That won't do anything to keep the LBJ from separating from the LCA. You're just creating redundancy for the spindle. To secure the LBJ you'd need to weld from it to the LCA.
BFG's run small and that's also helping you drive it on the stock 4.10 gears. What's the tire measure under the rig? It's doable even in an auto on stock gears but deeper gears make it so much more fun to drive.
My own real world use would say the 10.9 is vastly superior to the OEM bolts. Maybe I've just been very unlucky shearing all the OEM bolts I have and shearing zero of the 10.9s I now use. But I doubt it. lol
They have held up to my wheeling habits for 5 years so far. I keep a spare set of the SPC UBJ's in the rig but have never needed them. Broke plenty of LBJ bolts in that same time. lol
Not might be. Is. I've done the testing under real world conditions. 10.9s won't shear. Even for me. A weaker bolt will shear regardless of if it's got a capture not or not. Putting more tension on them might actually make them more prone to shear. I still can't wait to see the results...
Turns out if you wheel hard enough you can break the top locking tabs off the Balistic Fab battery box. The lower part of that box is welded to the inner fender. I thought for sure there's no way it would ever fail. I was wrong. That tie down has been holding strong for a while now. lol
100A relay, 100A breaker mounted to inner fender.
Blue Sea fuse box mounted to factory fuse cover.
Wheeled hard with zero issues but I like simple. lol
