My oem only work when it's hot outside.....sometimes. Buy a cheap pair of visegrips and don't look back. With the visegrips you can set the height you want your hatch opened, sometimes I like it lower depending on where the sun is.

Definitely replace them if they are old. I wouldn't pay anyone more than an hour labor if they were already in that area removing related components. I swapped mine in 45 minutes in my buddies driveway, with the two of us working together on each side. Two sets of hands per side help alot.
