I'm going to bump this because I have the exact same problem on my 06 SE with 160k miles. MountainsRcalling , did you manage to fix this issue? Any tips? Local mechanic quoted about $350 parts and labor to fix this (after changing my oil, ugh).

Look on amazon for the bulbs, they are much cheaper. I just bought one for one of the AC control knobs for around $5.

You can buy fobs on eBay or amazon as well and program them in the same kind of way. Just google instructions on how to do it. Interesting to know about the keys, I needed up paying aroun $100 for an extra key at the dealership. Nice to know this can be done, my own stupidity for not doing...
