I'm not really good at explaining things, but I do know you can get to the cable directly behind the gas cap area from the back gate area. Just a couple screws and you can pop some trim back and get a clear view of it.

Just adding in here My '99 4runner limited has 384k miles on it and still has no check engine light or issues. It has a little bit of rust, but it is still in good condition.

It worked for me I have seen this forum for a while, and after this mod, I decided to get an account. So I am a bit new here. Anyway, this took 45 minutes for me on my '99 4runner and it worked perfectly. I actually grounded the wire to the bolt holding the black box up. I didn't cut the 5mph...
