I just went through the same predicament a couple months ago of aftermarket vs factory 01-02 for my 99. I figured you cannot beat factory quality so found a clean factory 02 pair for $50 and bought two wiring harnesses to update and was plug and play!!! Looks so much better!!!

That's the exact search I was looking for when I bought my 4th Gen, ended up with an 08 limited V8 and love it! The major differences between the 03-05 and 06-09 are some cosmetic changes and Variable valve timing added boosting some power to the engine.

Thanks, yeah Cobalts are really great boats, built very solid and has a real deep hull that takes waves good. You'll be fine going up to a 22'-23' boat, these V8's are great for towing and already have a tranny cooler from the factory.
