    Replacing U-Joints?

Thinking I have the same failure on a 2WD 200k+ miles. Was running fine until about 5k of long distance driving, and now it vibrates from 28-33 MPH - strongly suspect it's a transmission issue as it immediately resolves on throttle pull-back and doesn't return. Everything seems to point to...

    roof rack weight limit?

Did just fine with this couch on top, for about 8 blocks. Yes, I used straps. It helps to have an understanding of dynamic and static loads, and the importance of very strong sphincter control when driving over small bumps. Also, don't ever do this. I'm sure I exceeded the published limits...

Would you buy 4runner with a rebuilt title?

Salvage title example My '97 was insurance totaled because of high miles (330k) and I bought it back from the insurance company for $800, got a salvage title, and sold it to a friend for $2000 (worth 2x that without a salvage title) - brand new MTX-LX tires, brand new leather seats, owned since...

Just discovered water under my cargo area carpet!!

Make sure the area above the cargo door seal is completely free of any debris - if there are any leaves or crud up there water won't drain properly down the sides of the hatch and water can leak through the seal, run down the inside of the hatch, and accumulate under any cargo liner you may...

Strong vibration's 65+, had inspection done. Thoughts?

Regarding the clunk coming off the gas, it's normal. That sounds like my first, and current 4runner. I wouldn't worry about that. I had a shake that showed up at 60-65 mph - was more pronounced when the truck was cold. Turned out it was the steering rack. Replacing fixed the issue.

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Replaced the starter motor. With the onset of cold weather, it was clicking and complaining before finally turning over. Toyota starter fun fact: it can be fixed by swearing, for at least two weeks, until you get a new one. Step one: turn key. Step 2: hear click. Step 3: swear a bunch...

    Iceland!

Bam! No posts in this section - so I thought I'd start one. I'm taking another trip to Iceland, and the last time I was there, I saw many awesome Toyotas, old and new. I'll be posting the pictures here of any and every cool Toyota I run across. Tom

Looking for a Cargo Carrier for rear hitch.

Correction - the one I have isn't folding - I see this one can fold up when it's empty. Curt sells the one that doesn't fold also - that's the one I have.

Looking for a Cargo Carrier for rear hitch.

I've got this one. Super solid construction, and it works great. Any specific questions?

    Steering wheel changes??

Can you post pics of both wheels? I swapped mine over (99) without a problem, and the wheel part was the same for the entire gen, if I recall correctly.

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

You know, I have my old one which now needs to be recovered. I'd be up for donating it to someone who wants to get it recovered, and doesn't want the hassle of taking theirs off and waiting for the recover to take place. As long as the trail was documented and the wheel was a pay-it-forward...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I got very lucky - 124.99 on EBay. It was an impulse buy when I saw it pop up a couple of months ago. Finally got around to installing it.

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Today, swapped out the steering wheel with 230k miles on it, and replaced it with a brand. new. steering. wheel. Oh, man. Nice.

    Ethanol or Non-Ethanol?

87 octane ethanol would produce a very slight knocking in my 1997, audible only when driving next to a concrete lane divider. I would fill with 89, no knocking. About 200k miles on the 89 ethanol, because it was near impossible to find gas in Seattle without E. My mileage would go up 5-10%...
