It was a pretty good truck prior to accident. I've always tried to keep it well-maintained. Was planning on doing an independent trans cooler and taking it beyond 250k miles :). Anyone knows how much would airbags cost to replace? Is there some kind of certificate/testing procedure involved...

Lol you guys are great. If I was mechanically incline, I do wish I can keep it and fix it up. I'll consider calling a shop and seeing how much it would take to get it back to normal, with working airbags of course. If I do decide to sell it, would a number between $1000-1500 be fair and reasonable?

I'm not skilled enough to do the mechanical work. I'd probably have to outsource all work to shops, and end up paying more than what I'd like out of pocket. But I'm still considering all my options. Any idea how much money I can expect to sell for as is?

I just had liability only insurance on the vehicle. Figured it wasn't worth it to get comprehensive coverage. In retrospect, I regret this decision.

hey poleclimber63, did you ever figure out the source of your ticking noise? I also get a ticking noise somewhere between 2-3k rpm under load.

I agree that the vibration / rumble at idle is caused by the low rpm. When fully warmed up, my 4runner idle between 600-610 rpm. I used the Ultragauge to measure this. I have a persistent rumble when in Drive and Stopped. But goes away immediately when I put in Neutral and it shoots up to 700...

Do you have the FSM? I believe you can use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the the throttle when it's closed and at WOT, and see if it those are within specs. Also, perhaps cleaning the MAF sensor would help. You mentioned you changed plugs and wires, but what about the coils?

I'll charge with a little more freon to see if I can get the pressure to ~35 psi. How can I go about draining and flushing the system?

The sight glass appears cloudy/white all the time. Before AC is turned on, during the time it starts up, and long after it has stopped. I guess I am low on freon? I compared my sight glass with the 2nd photo in this thread post...

Is there any other way short of bringing it to a shop?

I don't believe it was empty before. It blew noticeably cool but not as cool as my buddy's new car.

Just recharged my 4runner with a full 18oz of R-134. The pressure when the condenser kicks on remained the same before and after the recharge. Why? It blows cold air though. How cold? Couldn't tell you, it is later at night and it's not really warm. But it blows colder than ambient for sure...
