3rd Gen Rear Diff compatibility information?

Well Charlie you are 100% correct. I finally got around to pulling it out. My rear diff is a 41/11 or 3.727 gear ratio. Also pleasantly surprised it had 4 spider gears instead of the 2 I thought it had. Now to rebuild it with a truetrac

3rd Gen Rear Diff compatibility information?

I appreciate the input but I am fairly certain it is 3.58 as my 4cyl 4Runner has 3.73 and runs about 150ish rpm higher at 80mph. I guess I'll find out when I tear into it and can count teeth.

3rd Gen Rear Diff compatibility information?

I have a dying 3.58 rear differential. I've been finding all sorts of conflicting information. Since I have to replace it, I thought why not put an E-locker in it. I have seen the difference and thought about doing a swap for the factory E-locker but I don't want a 4.3 ratio and an...

repair kit for fuel line to filter

I have a '99 2.7L looking for an easy fix to replace the hard fuel line between the gas tank and the flex hose to the fuel filter on the engine. It looks like a double flare compression fitting on both ends. Browsing this thread it looks like the tube nuts are 14mm x 1.5 threads. I am...

Part# 17630-15090 control valve on power steering?

Well I drove to the store to get some vinyl #10 screw thread protectors to use as caps. They were very tight, Probably could have used 1/4". The vacuum leak on the way to the store raised warm idle by 200 RPM to 900. After putting the caps on idle went back down to about 700 RPM. I...

Part# 17630-15090 control valve on power steering?

Thanks I saw that one vacuum line goes before and one after the throttle body. So I assume this somehow reacts to a drop in hydraulic pressure and opens to allow a small amount of air to bypass the throttle body and bring rpm up for more pump power. I will block off the intake ports for now...

Part# 17630-15090 control valve on power steering?

Does anyone know what the control valve does that is attached to two vacuum lines? It's on a 2.7L 4cyl if that matters. I broke off the nipples while replacing my belts and see it is an expensive part but for the life of me I can't figure out what it does. it's part# 14 on this diagram...

'99 4 cylinder, intermittent stumbling and weak power.

What HiLife said. Remember these engines are drive by wire. If the gas is rotten and the knock sensor is detecting detonation the computer may be dialing things back and throttling things up slowly. I'd top off with premium to make sure your octane is up and take it on the freeway for some...

    instrument panel dimmer replacement?

I was replacing some dash lights and busted my instrument panel dimmer trying to get the damned plug out of the back of it when I was taking things apart. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement or a part number I can search? all i seem to find is the headlight stalk when I search for...

    Iridium plugs?

Yes what TheDurk said! SpidermanGeek, I worded that poorly. I meant the PCM doesn't O2 sensors that aren't OEM. I put Denso in parenthesis because they are the OEM sensors. I had $60 generic O2 sensors that I had installed. Long story short that didn't fix the problem and ended up...

    Iridium plugs?

Nope that's not what I'm describing. What I was talking about was how the ignition coils charge and discharge and whether the current is flowing to or from the center electrode. Since it's been years if not decades since I learned how "modern" ignition systems work, I don't remember which...

    Iridium plugs?

I have used double platinum for years. I'm not terribly familiar with how the ignition works on the T4R but on my previous vehicle with wasted spark ignition the spark would reverse directions every other cycle. In other words it would jump from the center electrode to the "finger," next spark...

Are all front struts the same? 4Cyl. and V6.

After much swearing and grinding I finally got the old strut out after 153K+ miles. Here it is next to its replacement: The other side went much smoother after I learned the secret to getting them out. The back nut on top is a ***** to get at. The nuts were too rusted to get a wrench on and...

    Help. 3RZ problems...

I'd buy those at an autoparts store. Forget getting raped by the stealership. A quick search at advanced autoparts website says $130-$160 for the knock sensor and $200 for the OEM one. Idle air control valve is $225-$267. On Rockauto.com (wonder if they'd ship to you) it was $83 to $125 for...
