No wheel spacers required. I did my buddy's '98 Runner and his is an inch taller (lucky he has the 98). He's running 285/75/16 BFG AT on 16 x 8's. I'm really enjoying the performance of the MTs! A little stiff in the ride, but worth it.

We were told we could only get a rear locker with a manual tranny (5spd, SR5 V6) when we bought our 3rd gen back in 1997. The wife really wanted auto trans, and I wanted the locker. The dealer said we can't even order them in that configuration (back then anyway).

You may want to ensure the motor or mounting is solid...one issue I think you'd encounter is vibration. We see this even with lights that have strong mounting, so a motorized mount might compound the issue. Aloha!
