Sorry to hear about the issues. Other than the DRL LEDs going out on the Gen1 like most have experienced, I didn't have any other issues. The Gen2 units worked great for the few months they were installed.
We sold the 4R back in April so I don't have any feedback beyond that. I begrudgingly...
If the lack of beam pattern pictures of the Alpharex lights weren't a dead giveaway, I don't know what else is. The Morimoto v2 units are hard to beat with the 5yr warranty.
In Denver?
Wouldn't recommend giving one cent to most of the local stealerships here. None of them are competitive with only the west coast being worse with markups especially with certain trims.
As others have suggested, shop around focusing on the SE region such as GA and FL. Speaking from...
Other drivers are morons. They'll flash their brights when driving our other cars and those are with stock LED headlights that have never been touched! They soon realize when they get brights back in their face.
But no, they haven't.. yet. The throw on these lights as aimed is no...
Bought a TRD Pro because the depreciation curve and retained value is much different than the other trims. Not many other cars on the market where you can purchase it outright and sell WHOLESALE a year or more later for more than original purchase price.
No issues at all. I'm really enjoying the nightly drives with the Gen2 lights due to the improved beam pattern. If you're due for an RMA, I highly recommend getting rid of the Gen1s for that reason alone.
Here are some pics of gen1 (top) vs gen2 (bottom) below in case you missed the comparison...
Bought both the glovebox and center console organizer a few weeks back. Both pieces fit great. The center console piece even fits in the console safe. Just need to turn it diagonal.
The Mirror Tap is pretty easy to install. No running wires into the fuse box. I just moved my V1 over from my other car and it took literally three minutes. Most of that was Googling to confirm the blue wire was the +.
Was just thinking "wow those lights and the darker housing looks hot on a black rig" right before I saw this post in the thread. :)
Thanks for adding those awesome comparison pictures. How do you like the beam pattern cutoffs for the G2 lowbeams vs the HID setup?
I didn't do a true retrofit if I'm interpreting your question correctly. The Morimoto XB headlights are completely sealed replacement assemblies that I purchased through HID Kit Pros last year.
If opening up the stock units for a projector retrofit was a solution I was open to, of the pictures...
You're probably right -- those Gen1 units will fail again at some point. I do hope the support issues that some folks experienced earlier this year was a blip due to the unexpected events early on with the pandemic along with the Morimoto merger/acquisition.
I can't believe how quick they were...
It's definitely not the grass. It's projected that way and is also present on the passenger side, too. It's not as noticeable when driving or when projecting on the wall. Not sure what it is.
So to answer my own question...
The new Gen2 DRL harness/fuse tap comes with 2x 10A fuses whereas the older harness was 1x 10A and 1x 3A. I didn't feel like running the new DRL harness as they looked identical so I just swapped out the 3A with the 10A fuse. Although I feel like moving the fuse...
