The check engine light never came on for me, but the shop said it kicked on while they were taking it for a drive. It's a good thing too, or those idiots wouldn't have ever figured it out.

Update: after nine total weeks, I finally have my rig back. The tps was bad and it took the shop an additional two weeks to figure it out. All told the head gaskets, water pump, timing belt, throttle position sensor, a couple of valves, and an injector were replaced. I am glad to have it done...

So what did you find when you got in there? My rig is having the same symptoms that you were describing AFTER the shop did a valve job and new head gaskets, so I am wandering if they got the clearances right, or if there may be another explanation.

In the interest of time I will keep the details to a minimum, but after having my rig in the shop for six weeks to replace the head gaskets, do a valve job, replace the water pump and timing belt, and replace a faulty injector, I finally got my baby back. And it now has the torque of a Jazzy...

Someone else set me straight if I am wrong on this one, but you should just need to swap out the hubs. No need to swap the CV's.

What kind of coil spacers have you seen work? I tried the ones with two plates and two bolts that spread and keep the coil from compressing and they don't work well. They invariably shift over time and make for a very stiff ride. I have been flirting with trying the spacers that you put above...
