Metal Flakes (gold color) in Oil Filter Housing Cap?

Don't worry about unless it continues, I had the same thing at my first oil change. Have not seen it again. Have 182k miles now and change oil ever 5k miles. First time I changed the rear differential lube had some partials too, but not in later changes. It's just from breaking in new parts.

    Transfer case lube.

Its been awhile but if I remember correctly, it took just over one can. Probably one would have been enough, but did not want to drain the old out and not have enough to refill.

    Touchy Grabby Brakes

Just to follow up on this post, my frame seems to be fine. I got new Cooper tires last December and have about 30k miles on them now, they are wearing nice and even with 10k mile rotation intervals. As for the brake assist, I still get it occasionally, but have learned to keep it under control...

    Touchy Grabby Brakes

I have been rear ended in the 4Runner already, but it was not due to the brake assist stopping me too fast. (this time) Fortunately it was low speed and damage was minimal. I got a new hitch and bumper cover. The impact only opened the sunroof cover about 1/2 way. The main problem was after...

    Battery Replacement

Thanks for reminding me that my Runner is now a little over 4 years old with 151k miles on it and I have not replaced the battery yet. I just ordered an Odyssey battery and spacer, hope it arrives before OEM battery fails. Because now that I know its subject to fail any moment, I will be...

    Can't add service record

Actually I do, but only up until the warranty expires. I keep the receipts in a file in my office along with oil analysis reports and other vehicle related information. Now that my extended warranty has expired on the 4Runner, I am not as anal about keeping every receipt.

    Can't add service record

I started using that site when I bought my 4Runner, it lost all my records somewhere around 50k miles. I still use it but do not depend on it. I keep a handwritten notebook in the glove box with every service that I perform. Just like I have done with every other vehicle I have owned.

Question unworthy of serious consideration, asking anyway.

I guess this is in the category of trivial issues Jeep owners don't deal with on their forums, ha. Happy Friday! As a former Jeep owner, I am just happy to have intermittent wipers that actually work. My Grand Cherokee had automatic rain sensing wipers, one day they stopped working on...

8yr/75k Platinum EW for my TEP

I bought an extended warranty too. Paid around $1000 for the 125k miles one, don't remember how many years because I knew that 125k miles would be around 3 years driving for me. I bought it for the peace of mind and because my last vehicle had around $6000 worth of repairs paid by the extended...

My First Oil Change and Have a Question

You only let it sit for 5 minutes, try letting it sit overnight and check the dipstick again before you drain any out. I have found that the dipstick is hard to read until it sits for a while. Be sure to look at both sides of the stick I do the same thing as you, add 6 quarts then just a tiny...

Door lock actuator went to hell

My drivers door one failed just before the extended warranty expired. So it was covered, I had the dealer change it out. According to the invoice it would have cost $248.44 for the part and $147.23 for labor, total $395.67. That was back in July of 2015.

    2010 4Runner Brake Pad Replacement

I did not bleed mine when I did them. I loosened the cap of the master cylinder a little. The fluid simply pushes back and refills the master reservoir. One of the easiest brake jobs I ever did. I replaced my rotors at the same time so I had to remove the caliper brackets, but if only changing...
